At Care to Change, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our highest priority. We are committed to creating an environment where children are safe, respected, valued, and empowered.

We have zero tolerance for abuse, neglect, exploitation, or harm. Every concern or allegation will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

Care to Change is committed to complying with the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld) and the 10 National Child Safe Standards. This means:

  • Child safety is embedded in our leadership, governance, and culture.
  • Children and young people, including those with disability, are informed of their rights, taken seriously, and involved in decisions that affect them.
  • Families and communities are welcomed, informed, and supported to play a role in promoting child safety.
  • We respect equity and diversity, ensuring cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and children from all backgrounds.
  • All people working with children are screened, trained, and supported to uphold child safety.
  • Children and families have safe and accessible ways to raise concerns, complaints, or feedback, and they are listened to.
  • Staff and contractors receive regular training to maintain the skills and awareness needed to keep children safe.
  • Physical and online environments are designed to be safe, and risks of harm are actively minimised.
  • We regularly review and improve our child safety practices.
  • Our policies and procedures clearly document how Care to Change is a child-safe organisation.

A Shared Responsibility

Protecting children and young people is everyone’s responsibility. Every person at Care to Change, no matter their role, has a duty to contribute to a safe environment.

Our values—Be Open. Be Honest. Be Respectful. Be Inclusive.—guide everything we do and reflect our commitment to a culture of safety and wellbeing.

As a strict requirement of our operational framework, all Care to Change staff, management, and contractors undergo rigorous background screening. This includes mandatory Working with Children Checks (Blue Cards), NDIS Worker Screening Clearances, and comprehensive reference checks before they are permitted to support participants.

We actively encourage open communication. We provide straightforward, accessible, and confidential channels for children, young people, and their families to provide feedback or raise a concern. You will always be listened to, and every report is acted upon immediately in line with our governance policies.
